We Want LAPTOP - PU students protest for laptops

LAHORE – When the Punjab government is all set to distribute laptops among the students of the largest varsity of the country—Punjab University—on March 23, the students of evening and replica programmes have continued their protest on the second consecutive day against the government for not including their names for having laptops.

The students, mostly females, belonging to the different departments and classes demanded of the government to give them laptops. The students, having placards and banners with their demands walked from Center for Undergraduate Studies to the Administration Block. They chanted slogans against Punjab government as well.

The students said earlier they received confirmation messages but later they were asked that the government decided not to give them laptops. The protesters said it was injustice with them as they were the student of same institution and had been enrolled by paying more fees from the students of morning classes. But, they said, the government was discriminating against them.

They said if their names were not included in the list, they would create rumpus during distribution ceremony.

Workshop: The Punjab University Department of Zoology organised 8th National Beekeeping Training Workshop which was attended by both private and public sector organisations.

The aim of the workshop was to create employment and improve livelihoods through knowledge partnerships. The training workshop provided an excellent orientation for beekeeping as a hobby and profitable enterprise for honey production.

It is worth mentioning here that in developed countries, honeybee colonies are rented by the fruit/crop growers for pollination purpose for diversification of farm production system. Contrary to that, honeybee farmers in our country are facing serous difficulty in temporary placement of honeybee colonies near crop or orchard fields or forests. Major objective of participation of the multidisciplinary personnel was to help sensitise them about beekeeping and its benefits so as to develop awareness among then to solve problems of the beekeepers during migration of honeybee colonies on different floral belts in various localities.
